Michèle St-Amant

Michèle St-Amant is a PhD candidate at the University of Toronto, a research associate at the Organization for the Prevention of Violence, and a Young Fellow at the Institute for Peace & Diplomacy.


Michèle’s academic and professional research interests lie at the intersection of international security issues such as civil wars and regional conflicts, resource geopolitics, great power competition, terrorism, and violent extremism. Michèle has previously taught a course on terrorism studies and has published work on violent extremism and terrorism in the United States and Canada. Her dissertation explores the military dynamics of great power natural resource competition in civil wars using a mixed-methods approach that combines large-n data analysis and historical archival research
